Internet access
| The library provides computers with high speed access to the Internet, including one with a large screen monitor and other accessibility features. Each computer also links to our library public access catalog and to the Access Pennsylvania Power Library. A variety of reference programs are available. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Our internet access policy is posted upon logging into a computer. The library requires responsible use of the computer resources. Use of obscene, pornographic or illegal materials is not appropriate. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Due to security concerns, downloading is not permitted. Chat, newsgroups, and user groups are not active features. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Children and the Internet |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Parents are encouraged to monitor their children's use of the Internet. Computers with filtering software are provided in the Children's Department to reduce access to obscene or pornographic materials. However, no filter is foolproof and parental supervision is important. Children 10 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Office Productivity Software |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Workstations have software for Word Processing (Microsoft
Word), spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), database creation (Microsoft Access),
presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint), and graphics (Microsoft PhotoDraw).
Microsoft Publisher is available for greeting cards, brochures, signs and
flyers. Workstations allow saving to diskette or CD-R. Diskettes are available for purchase for $0.50, CDs for $1.00. Please confirm with front desk staff which machines are capable of saving to CD. |

Printing |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Black and white printing is available for $0.10 per page. Color printing is available for $1.00 per page. All printing goes to a computer at the front desk where all printing jobs are managed. You can pick up and pay for your copies there. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Printing from web pages is usually quite easy. To avoid paying for unwanted or blank pages, use the Print Preview feature to examine your printing and select only the pages you really want. A brochure is available at our computers to help you with printing. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Microsoft PowerPoint: When printing a PowerPoint
Presentation, Microsoft defaults to "One slide per page" To save paper and
decrease the cost of a print job, users may want to consider saving the
presentation, and printing "handouts" (This allows 2, 3, 4, or 6 slides per
page). **Note: Online distance education software such as "WebCT" "Blackboard" and other engines may default to printing slides within the school's website. The only way the library knows to change the printing mode requires saving to floppy disk, then printing from the saved file.**
